So my AP Lit class recently read Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness, and I got the idea to make heart-shaped “Tarts of Darkness.” And, for those who have read the book, you’ll recall the severed heads of the natives atop wooden stakes which Marlow first mistakes to be some sort of décor and to which the harlequin refers as rebels. A friend and I tried to recreate a cuter, edible version of those unfortunate heads and made red velvet cake pops, too! 

I was feeling very clever.
